Cable cars in Schenna: a relaxed way from the valley into South Tyrol’s mountains
Schenna is not only located above Merano. It stretches across a remarkable range of landscapes, from the sunny vineyard slopes up into the alpine world around the Ifinger and Hirzer. It is a wide landscape waiting to be discovered. Step by step on foot. Or quite comfortably by cable car.
Three cable cars lead directly from the village into the hiking areas of Merano and environs. They connect the valley with the mountains, movement with ease, and make South Tyrol’s alpine landscape accessible to everyone. Whatever your pace, walking experience or mood on the day.
Three cable cars, three ways into the landscape
Around Schenna, the Verdins-Tall cable car, the Taser cable car and the Merano 2000 ropeway open up very different landscapes. Each leads into a world of its own. And yet they belong together: three ways up into the remarkable variety of Merano and environs.
The Hirzer region: space and quiet above Merano
The ascent into the Hirzer region begins with the Verdins-Tall cable car, one of the most extensive hiking areas in South Tyrol. Even during the ride, the view opens across Merano and the landscapes of Merano and environs. Forests and meadows lie below, the mountains draw closer, and everyday life slowly recedes.
Once you arrive at the top, the mood changes. The landscape feels open and calm, almost reserved. Gentle alpine pastures, open woodland and long paths shape the scenery. Here, the point is not to see as much as possible. It is simply to be on your way. At your own pace, with wide views and plenty of space for thought.
Schennaberg: close, sunny and easy to walk
The Taser cable car takes you up to the Schennaberg, an area that immediately feels familiar. Everything seems close, manageable and pleasantly sunny. The view reaches across Schenna and down towards Merano. From here, paths lead to the Ifingerhütte mountain hut, across to the Gsteier mountain farm or, quite gently, to Taser Alm. The routes are easy to walk, the landscape is open and the places to stop along the way feel welcoming and personal.
The Schennaberg is especially well suited to enjoyable walks, to families and to days when you simply want to be outdoors without planning too much. Those who wish can stay up there, sit down on a terrace and let the day unfold without a plan.
Merano 2000: variety between summer and winter
The Merano 2000 ropeway takes you directly into one of South Tyrol’s most varied areas for hiking and skiing. High above, a sunny plateau awaits, with wide views of the surrounding mountains.
In summer, scenic paths and well marked routes invite you to enjoy walks and hikes from gentle to more sporty. Alpine huts along the way turn the day into a quiet blend of movement, nature and local flavour.
In winter, Merano 2000 becomes a sunny ski area with broad slopes and a clear sense of space. At the same time, walking paths lead through the winter landscape, and toboggan runs invite you to experience the day in a different, more playful way.
Experiencing the mountains around Schenna
The cable cars around Schenna open up more than paths. They open up perspectives. They connect altitudes, landscapes and moods: from the vineyards above Merano to the alpine pastures and peaks of South Tyrol.
For guests of Hotel Hohenwart, they are a natural part of the stay: as a starting point for hikes, as a relaxed alternative on warm days or as an invitation to discover the mountain world of Merano and environs.
Whether alone, as a couple or with the family: from Schenna, the mountains are within easy reach.
