The season with depth
Golden light and conscious, relaxed enjoyment.
When the leaves slowly change color and the larch forests in the heights around Schenna shine in warm gold and red tones, one of the most intense seasons in the Merano area begins. Autumn brings peace and at the same time abundance: the days get shorter, but the sun shines lower, more soothing, and calmer. Often, it lingers until late, with many hours of sunshine throughout the day, even into November. While the valley below is covered in fog, up here we enjoy clear views and a light that softens everything. Autumn feels calm in Schenna, but never gray.
Out and about in autumn
Autumn is perfect for getting out: hiking and biking through colorful forests, walks along the "Waal" and farm trails, scenic tours at mid-height, where it’s still pleasantly warm. The long-distance views are perfect, the paths relatively quiet, and nature shows itself deeper, more contrasting, and slower.

Culture & Encounters
Autumn invites enriching encounters. Small events, cultural impulses, and quiet evenings in Merano offer opportunities to slow down, experience things consciously, and appreciate them. There’s less hustle and bustle now, but much more depth. Time for conversations, enjoyment, and small pleasures.
For those who prefer a more sophisticated atmosphere, the Südtirol Festival Merano (Merano Music Weeks) and the Merano WineFestival are not to be missed.
In autumn, we make the most of what the kitchen has to offer. Enjoy the fruits of summer!
Törggelen & time for enjoyment
Autumn tastes special. From mid-September to the end of October, it’s Törggele season in the Merano area. This culinary tradition invites guests to gather at the "Buschenschänken" for a convivial and rustic feast. A Törggele menu includes roasted chestnuts, new wine, and hearty home-cooked dishes, such as barley soup, boiled meats with sauerkraut, and sweet fritters. This tradition is also reflected at Hohenwart: seasonal cuisine with autumn menus and matching wines is the focus. A pleasure that warms and prepares you for winter.
Warmth & Retreat
This is also necessary in autumn. As it gets cooler outside and the days shorten, we tend to come closer together and love to retreat indoors. At Hohenwart, you will find warm water, relaxation areas with views over the valley, soothing saunas, and relaxing treatments. The VistaSpa Adults Only becomes a retreat for adults, while the FamilySpa is a wellness paradise for all generations.
