Wonderful moments on your skiing holiday in South Tyrol

Winter magic at Meran 2000: skiing, tobogganing & Winter hiking – a must for your Winter holiday in South Tyrol

When the first snowflakes dance across the Merano area and the mountains of South Tyrol put on their white Winter coat, a very special magic settles over Merano 2000. For us at Hohenwart, a trip up to the sunny plateau simply belongs to Winter – as naturally as the scent of fresh snow or a warm welcoming smile. Merano 2000 is close, friendly, spacious. It feels like a familiar friend you look forward to seeing again each year.

Skiing at Meran 2000 – sunshine, views and moments of pure pleasure

What makes Merano 2000 so charming is not only its sunny position in the heart of South Tyrol but also the pleasant size of the skiing area. With nearly 40km of slopes, it offers variety without overwhelming – ideal for anyone who loves relaxed Winter days in South Tyrol.

A total of 7 lifts, including the popular Meran 2000 cable car and modern chairlifts, take you comfortably to the top. The slopes are harmoniously spread across easy, intermediate and more challenging runs – perfect for families, leisure skiers and those who enjoy picking up a bit of speed now and then. This mix is what makes Meran 2000 special: clear, sunny, inviting – a skiing area that captures your heart straight away.

Skiing at Meran 2000 gives you a sense of freedom. The wide, clearly laid-out slopes invite you to leave everyday life behind and carve your way through South Tyrol’s Winter landscape. The view opens over the Etschtal Valley, Mount Ifinger stands proudly above, and the sun warms your face even on cold Winter days. Many of our guests tell us that they find their own personal rhythm here: not rushed, not loud, but calm, clear and soothing.

Perhaps you’ll stop for a break at one of the mountain huts along the slopes, enjoy homemade bread dumplings, a hot tea on the terrace or a portion of “Kaiserschmarrn” – a moment of Winter holiday bliss that feels almost meditative as snow crystals sparkle all around.

Winter hiking – step by step closer to yourselves

The Winter hiking trails at Meran 2000 are among the most beautiful in the entire region of Meran. They wind their way across gentle, sunny slopes, through quiet snow-covered forests, and lead to viewpoints that naturally make you stop. The view stretches across the Etschtal Valley, sometimes even to the Dolomites. A panorama that feels like a deep breath for the soul. Up here everything seems a little clearer: the air, the light, the thoughts. Every step becomes calmer, more mindful, and you feel Winter embracing you.

Those who want to dive even deeper can strap on snowshoes. At Meran 2000, a silent Winter world opens up, where you hear only the crunch of snow and your own breath. The landscape widens, the sounds fade, the moment intensifies. Many of our guests describe this experience as “Winter to breathe in” – something that stays with you long after your holiday in South Tyrol has ended.

Tobogganing – fun for the heart, the belly and your treasure of memories

A Winter holiday at the Hotel Hohenwart without a toboggan run? Almost impossible. The well-prepared toboggan run at Meran 2000, about 3km long with a difference in altitude of roughly 351m, is ideal for anyone seeking carefree Winter joy. The ascent is easy, and the descent is full of laughter, speed and that little spark of childhood happiness you may have forgotten about. Many of our guests return with rosy cheeks and shining eyes, saying it was one of the most memorable moments of their Winter holiday.
