The Merano Music Weeks

The Merano Music Festival 2025 – Music that touches the soul

A feast for the senses: Mrs. Christine shares how she experiences the Merano Music Weeks – and why she’s already so excited for them

The Merano Music Weeks hold a very special place in my heart. Every year I look forward to this concert series with great anticipation – for almost 40 years, it has brought world-class musicians and enthusiastic audiences from across the world to Merano. As a classical music lover, I’m constantly amazed by what is achieved here in South Tyrol: a festival that rivals the great stages of Europe in quality, variety and atmosphere – yet still retains its unique charm and personal character.

What makes the Merano Music Weeks so extraordinary is the combination of outstanding music and deep emotion. Prestigious orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra London and the Dresdner Philharmonie take the stage – alongside innovative ensembles like Abel Selaocoe or the young Quatuor Agate, who captivate with fresh and inspiring interpretations. The programmes are carefully curated – often surprising, always of the highest standard. I love immersing myself in the music – sometimes well-loved classics, sometimes lesser-known gems – and each concert leaves me with new impressions and emotions.

Merano Music Weeks – Classical music festival in South Tyrol

The concert venues are an essential part of the magic. The most iconic is the Kursaal in Merano – a stunning Art Nouveau building with fantastic acoustics, not too big and not too small. I often say: great music in a living-room atmosphere. Even arriving is a joy in itself – with brass players performing from the balcony, the twinkling lights of the rotunda, and the chance to meet fellow music lovers along the promenade with a glass of South Tyrolean wine in hand – the evening begins with a smile. Some concerts also take place at the City Theatre or at selected locations in the surroundings – such as Schenna Castle, just around the corner from us. A truly magical setting you simply have to experience.

What brings me particular joy is seeing so many of our guests at Hohenwart discovering – or rediscovering – their love for classical music through this festival. I’m happy to accompany you to selected concerts, share tips and impressions, or simply enjoy a wonderful evening together.

World-class music in a dreamlike setting
This year’s Merano Music Weeks once again offer an exceptional line-up. Here are my personal recommendations – concerts I’m especially looking forward to and wholeheartedly suggest:

Quatuor Agate at Schenna Castle (24 August 2025)
A young French string quartet that’s made waves in recent years. In the unique acoustics of the castle, with views over the valley and a glass of wine in hand, chamber music becomes a truly personal experience.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (26 August 2025)
One of Australia’s most renowned orchestras comes to Merano! They bring a fresh, energetic sound – modern, vibrant and deeply rooted in classical tradition. I’m especially curious about their programme featuring Mahler and Strauss.

Philharmonia Orchestra London (4 September 2025)
A classic among classics. This British orchestra is one of the finest in Europe, known for its depth, elegance and incredible tonal range. I’m particularly excited about the Beethoven programme.

Il Pomo d’Oro (19 September 2025)
A world-class baroque ensemble that combines historical performance practice with passionate stage presence. The energy and virtuosity with which they perform Vivaldi, Handel or Bach is absolutely infectious!

Dresdner Philharmonie (22 September 2025)
This orchestra never fails to move me with its warm tone and exceptional artistry. Their concert at the Kursaal features works by Schumann and Bruckner – romantic, powerful and deeply stirring.
